EMV terminals read credit cards embedded with a smart chip and are designed to prevent the use of Counterfeit Credit Cards. Being that counterfeit credit cards are typically used for one-time purchases of items such as TVs, electronics & jewelry and are not typically used to pay for health care services, like chiropractic - we are not requiring you to get an EMV Terminal at this time. You can continue using your USB Card Readers or the Virtual Terminal for one-time credit card transactions.

As we've stated, EMV terminals are not a requirement. Your Cash Practice® USB card reader will continue to work well into the future. The liability shift from card issuers to merchants occurred in October 2015, but much of the software solutions are still being developed (that’s not just for us...that’s for all credit card processing software throughout the United States). The shift in liability is listed below, and you are considered the "merchant".

  • If a merchant is using swipe and sign technology and the customer uses an EMV card, the merchant is liable for fraudulent use.
  • If a merchant is using EMV technology but the customer has not been issued an EMV card, the card issuer is liable.
  • If the merchant uses EMV technology in concert with a customer’s EMV card and fraud still occurs, then the card issuer is liable.

Effective 10/1/19: In order to process card-present-swiped transactions (USB Swiper, CP Mobile Swiper & EMV Chip Terminal), our Retail merchant account is required and has merchant fees associated with it. EMV Terminals come with a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee. Items must be returned in new condition in their original packaging postmarked within 30 days of purchase. There is a $50 restocking fee for each EMV terminal returned. Refunds (less the restocking fee) will be posted against the original payment within 10 business days of receipt of return. The merchant will be responsible for all return shipping fees. For assistance with returns, merchants will need to contact our Merchant Services Dept at (877) 343-8950 x105. There is a 1-year manufacturer warranty for out-of-the-box equipment failure. Additionally, Cash Practice provides an additional 1-year warranty for out-of-the-box equipment failure (increasing the warranty period to a total of 2 years). If the terminal has failed within the warranty period and cannot be repaired a replacement will be provided. In the event that a terminal fails after the warranty period but less than 3 years since purchase, a new terminal can be purchased at a reduced cost. Physical damage of any kind is not covered. The manufacturer does offer repairs on non-covered issues for a fee. Merchants will need to contact our Merchant Services Dept for assistance at (877) 343-8950 x105.

Additional information for both the Lane/5000 and Lane/3000 EMV terminals:

  • A stand-alone terminal that plugs into an Ethernet cable connection
  • Your transactions will post in real-time to your Cash Practice® Posted Payment Report.
  • The terminal would be used for processing one-time payments with cards containing a Smart Chip as well as swiping cards without a Smart Chip.
  • BILLING INFO: By default, the billing information from cards processed on this terminal will not be stored on file, however, you will have the option to manually save the billing into the client's account when processing.
  • Terminals must be purchased directly from Cash Practice®, as they must be configured to work specifically with your Cash Practice RETAIL Merchant Account.
  • There is NO CONTRACT
  • The terminal is yours to keep (you are not renting it)

      • +$30 for Priority (1-3 Days)
      • +$60 for Express (Next Day)
  • We recommend plugging the terminal into a surge protector as a precaution for possible device damage
